Train strikes car; Nebraska man arrested for drunk driving

When driving at night, it might be easy to make a wrong turn. Because of the reduced visibility, all drivers have likely found themselves taking a turn too early or too late. Unfortunately, police in Nebraska believe that a driver's car was struck by a train not because of a simple driver error but because he was drunk driving.

Police were called to the scene of an accident involving a train and a vehicle just before 7 a.m. on a day in March. The State Patrol alleges that a 21-year-old man attempted to drive across train tracks in an area where there was no motor vehicle crossing, causing the vehicle to become stuck. He reportedly left the scene in an attempt to get help.

However, reports indicate that he returned. An oncoming train allegedly attempted to slow but still struck the vehicle, pushing it for over 500 feet. No one was injured in the incident. State police say that the man was impaired, but it is unclear how they made this determination. He was cited for trespassing and reckless driving and arrested for driving under the influence.

Unfortunately, many people charged with drunk driving in Nebraska have little experience with the legal system. They may be unaware of their options as well as unable to recognize unlawful treatment. To ensure that they are able to make informed decisions that are in their best interests, they often turn to an experienced professional for legal guidance as they navigate through the criminal justice system.
