Drug charges follow two Nebraska traffic stops

From the time they are born, most people in the United States are taught to respect authority. As a result, many people in Nebraska may not know how to react to a request from a police officer, for example, to search their vehicle. Unfortunately, two people face drug charges after their motor home was searched as part of a traffic stop. Additionally, another man was arrested following an unrelated traffic stop on a different part of the interstate.

The first incident happened just before 2 p.m. on a day in April. According to reports, police stopped a motorhome on Interstate 80, allegedly due to traffic violations. Police claim that the occupants, a married couple, agreed to let them search their motorhome. In their search, police officers say they found over 60 packages of marijuana under a mattress. Both the man and woman are suspected of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.

The second incident happened just before 6 p.m. and involved a 39-year-old man. Police say that the man first came to their attention when the van he was driving was allegedly observed traveling on the shoulder of the interstate. Though it is unclear why, a state trooper reportedly became suspicious and brought in a drug dog. That dog is said to have detected the smell of drugs, and a search allegedly revealed over 1,800 pounds of marijuana in addition to loose hash wax and hash oil vape pens. The man now faces multiple charges.

Unfortunately, without the legal knowledge that experienced criminal defense attorneys in Nebraska have, those facing criminal proceedings may not be able to recognize a violation of their rights. Even if they do, they may be unsure how to appropriately respond. As a result, those facing drug charges, among others, often choose to seek advice from an experienced professional to ensure that they are treated lawfully throughout proceedings.
