Relationships can be complicated. Sometimes, no matter how much two people care for each other, an argument begins and escalates to the point where one person ends up unintentionally hurting the other, either emotionally or physically or both. It seems this may have been what happened recently in Nebraska, where a man faces criminal charges after he allegedly shot his long-time partner, critically injuring her. She is not expected to survive the shooting, and he is now left to consider his criminal defense.

The incident happened early one recent Thursday morning when a 35-year-old man allegedly shot his partner with whom he had been in a relationship with since high school. He was subsequently charged with first-degree assault, use of a weapon to commit a felony and being a felon in possession of a firearm. At the time of the shooting, the accused had been out on bail following a domestic incident several weeks earlier. He is currently being held on $2 million bail.

At the time of the incident, the woman was employed at a local university, where she had earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in recent years. According to reports, she was well-loved by many and was a giving, helpful individual. In keeping with her character, she had elected to donate her organs upon her death.

Given his history of previous charges, this man may be somewhat familiar with the legal system. Regardless, now that he faces even more serious criminal charges, he may be feeling overwhelmed and unsure of his options. An experienced criminal defense attorney can provide guidance for any person facing such charges in Nebraska.
