Drunk driving accusations follow Nebraska crash

Any driver in Nebraska is likely aware of the many potential distractions while driving. This is especially true when there are children in the car — something as simple as handing a child a snack can cause a car to drift over the centerline, causing an accident. Unfortunately, a driver know faces accusations of drunk driving after a recent crash.

The crash happened on a night in mid-January. According to reports, a pickup truck containing a driver and two juveniles was northbound at the time of the accident. Police claim that the truck crossed the center line, resulting in a collision with a southbound vehicle.

Although the extent of their injuries is unclear, the two occupants of the southbound vehicle were transported to the hospital for treatment of their injuries. No one in the northbound vehicle was injured. The driver of the pickup truck has since been arrested. Charges include a child restraint violation, driving under the influence and child abuse for endangering the young passengers.

Despite the charges against the driver, many of the details of the accident are unclear, including why police came to suspect that alcohol played a role and how they confirmed their suspicions. When an accident happens at a certain time of day, it is often easy for officers to make assumptions regarding the cause. However, it takes significantly more than assumptions to convict someone of drunk driving and other crimes. Many people in Nebraska facing such charges seek the help of an experienced criminal defense attorney who can help them understand all aspects of their case and choose the best course of action.
