Although most Nebraska residents are fully aware of the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, unfortunately, some drivers still indulge in one or more of these substances before getting behind the wheel of a vehicle. In some cases, a person will repeat the same mistake multiple times. A Nebraska man was part of a multiple-vehicle accident in which, according to law enforcement authorities, drunk driving was involved.
The accident happened early on a recent Saturday evening in Lincoln. Five people suffered various injuries after their vehicle reportedly spun out of control and struck a Chevrolet pickup truck as the truck was trying to pull a Dodge pickup truck out of a ditch. All five occupants were taken to the hospital, including three children all of whom were treated for minor injuries and two adults who suffered serious injury.
Reportedly, following a preliminary test, the driver of the Dodge pickup was shown to have a blood alcohol level of more than twice the legal limit. According to police, he has since been arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. Authorities also found open alcohol, in addition to marijuana and drug paraphernalia in his vehicle, for which he has received citations.
This man may now face a drunk driving charge, in addition to other charges. Unfortunately, this driver has had two prior DUI convictions. Given his previous convictions, he likely has some knowledge of the law, but he may still be uncertain of the best course of action to take when dealing with his current situation. Fortunately, even before any charges are filed, he can arrange a consultation with a knowledgeable criminal defense attorney who can examine the unique aspects of his case and help him navigate the Nebraska criminal justice system going forward.
