The reasons behind many divorce cases

Divorce, on the whole, has declined in recent years. Nonetheless, it is still fairly common. The reality is that even with the best of intentions, many couples don’t make it.

Every relationship is different, and so too are the causes of divorce. However, there are some common patterns. Here are some of the recurring themes in divorce cases.

Infidelity

Marriage is a commitment, and it can be tough at times. Unfortunately, this can lead spouses to stray and cheat on their partners. Some couples are able to work through this, but infidelity often breaks down the trust in a relationship, which can be irreparable.

Domestic abuse

Studies suggest that over 10 million women and men experience domestic abuse every year in the U.S. This is a shocking statistic that contributes to the end of many marriages. When abuse occurs, leaving the relationship is often the safest option for the abused spouse.

While domestic abuse often involves physical violence, this isn’t always the case. Controlling and manipulative behavior is also a form of abuse that can have lasting consequences on the abused spouse’s welfare.

Financial disputes

There is no getting away from the fact that people need money to live comfortably. When a couple marries, this generally means pooling resources and being open about one another’s financial situation. If this doesn’t happen, it can cause problems in the relationship. Spending priorities can also cause friction. For example, one spouse may want to save and start a family while the other wants to focus on traveling and adventures. Financial disputes are frequently cited as one of the leading causes of divorce in the U.S.

If you are experiencing the above issues or other marital problems, then it may be time to start considering your legal rights.
